How the treatment works:

Before

We begin by examining the skin change and assessing that it is completely harmless. If needed, we consult our doctor. If you wish, the area can be numbed with a cream (Emla). The skin is cleansed and protective glasses are used during the treatment.

During the treatment

The laser treatment itself often takes only a few minutes. The CO² laser works by vaporising the unwanted skin area very precisely, layer by layer. It feels like small, quick pulses of heat. Most people experience the treatment as mild and fully manageable. At the same time, the laser coagulates small blood vessels, which means there is almost never any bleeding.

After

Immediately afterwards, the area may be slightly red and warm. A small scab forms within the next 24 hours and falls off by itself after a few days. You will receive aftercare instructions and can usually return to everyday activities straight away.

Healing and results

Healing usually takes 5–10 days, depending on the area. When the skin has fully healed, a lighter tone or slight redness may be visible and will gradually even out. Most skin changes disappear completely after one treatment.

Carbon dioxide laser CO²

A CO² laser is a highly precise and gentle method for removing small skin changes such as warts, fibromas, skin tags and pigmentation changes.

The treatment is quick, safe and usually involves a short healing time.

First 24 hours:

  • The treated area may be red, warm and slightly swollen; this is completely normal.

  • A small scab will begin to form. Avoid washing the area the same evening.

Days 1–7:

  • Wash the area gently with lukewarm water and mild soap if needed.

  • Apply a soothing ointment (e.g. Bepanthen) 1–2 times per day.

  • Let the scab fall off by itself; do not scratch it.

  • Avoid makeup on the area until the scab has come off.

  • Avoid sauna, bathing, swimming pools and strenuous exercise for the first 48 hours.

  • If the area is in a place where clothing rubs against it, you may use a small plaster during the first few days.

When the scab comes off:

  • The skin underneath may be pink or lighter; this is normal and will even out over time.

  • Continue using a mild ointment if the skin feels dry.

  • Avoid direct sun exposure on the area for 4 weeks. Use SPF50 if the area is exposed to sunlight.

When to contact the clinic:

  • If the area becomes very red, warm and tender after a few days, or if pus develops.

  • If you suspect an infection or have any questions.
